At Scene Collision Investigation (Level I)


The AIRS, Inc., Level I investigation class is the first level of instruction for entry level officers, investigators and engineers. This class will introduce students to the importance of a quality investigation using the following techniques:


Identifying and documenting roadway evidence
Report writing
Skid-mark analysis
Scale diagramming and Computer Diagramming Software
Colorado State Accident Report Form
Identification of a vehicle in a side-slip or yaw
Scene photography
Introduction to time and distance analysis in accident investigations
Introduction to airborne equations
Introduction to accident investigation technologies:
Acceleration and brake testing,
Infotainment systems,
Event Data Recorder (EDR),
Vehicle testing,
Scene documentation with laser measurements and drones, 
3-D point clouds,
Photogrammetry


Each student will complete a comprehensive exam covering the course material at the end of the class. Students should have a fair working knowledge of a scientific calculator.


This course is a pre-requisite for Advanced Technical Collision Investigation.
